Vogue magazine highlighted Bella Salon in its August 1996 issue as one of the top salons in the United States. An editorial and photographic crew visited with a sampling of Bella staff and clientelle over lunch in the cafe. After consulting with each other over fad, fashion, salads, and champagne, the consensus of Vogue was, "Austin, in other words, is not like the rest of Texas, and everybody who lives there wants you to know it."
They learned a thing or two about Austin fashion! "Even though Austin is a little funky, anything too iconoclastic is greeted with the back-handed compliment,
'Well, it's different'"
Vogue, August 1996.
